After a couple of leaks and teases, Meizu has officially unveiled its next flagship phone, the MX, to keep China entertained until a new, even better phone comes out two days later. Even though this quad-core beauty won’t be available until 2012, a dual-core model will be available in mainland China for a starting price of $470 on January 1st with Hong Kong also expecting an early release date as well.
The full spec list includes a 4″ 960 x 640 ASV display, 1.4GHz Smasung Exynos 4210 dual-core chip, 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM, 16GB of storage (with a 32GB version set to launch later), 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera, a secondary mic for noise cancellation and a 1,600mAh battery. The rumors of an optical trackpad have also been squashed as the circular button is nothing more than a physical home button.
Those who find themselves traveling abroad a lot will be pleased to know that the phone, which only measures 10.3mm thick, will come with pentabund 3G with HSPA+, meaning the only thing you need to get your phone working overseas is a Micro SIM.
As far as software goes, the MX comes equipped with Meizu’s heavily customized Android 2.3.5 initially, though it will eventually get the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update as CEO Jack Wong has already promised. In terms of multimedia you will find native support for FLAC audio as well as
various video formats like MKV, MP4 and AVI.
You also get a micro-USB port that supports S/PDIF digital output, USB host plus MHL and an 8 megapixel f/2.2 backside illuminated camera that comes complete with smile detection and panorama shot as well as 1080p 30fps recording. If you want each and every detail, you can head on over to Meizu’s website for the full run down on specs, pricing, etc…
